


Soap Making Workshop, NOV 5th- In Person and/or Virtual Learning
Have you ever wanted to learn how to make your own soap? This workshop is for you!
Choose how you want to learn :
- IN PERSON CLASS, Frederick, MD - 4 hours, We teach this class only once or twice a year in person, so now is your chance! PURCHASE NO LATER THAN BY 4pm EST NOVEMBER 4th to secure your spot.
OR
- VIRTUAL LEARNING
This workshop is designed to help students understand saponification values and be comfortable creating their own soap recipes at home.
In this workshop we will focus on :
- How to make Cold Process Soap & the benefits behind this process
- How to calculate lye amounts and safely work with lye (sodium hydroxide), how to calculate water amount, and fats (carrier oils)
- Safety and Safe cleanup
We will also touch on how to integrate a few advanced techniques such as :
- 'super-fatting' your soap
- how to incorporate herbs
- how to begin working with natural forms of color
- how to begin working with essential oils
- explore adding textures to your soaps
- a touch of 'magic' too!
IN-PERSON option :
Approximately 4 hours, with time for questions at the end of the class
- Above techniques mentioned for successful soap making
- Understanding soap making tools, safety etc.
- A handout with some notes, tips, tricks and a few recipes to try at home after your class
- LIVE DEMONSTRATION of cold process soap making
- HOW TO : calculations & one on one help with all calculations : lye, water, fats(oils), and essential oils
- Live Q & A at the end of the workshop

- ALL STUDENTS will be sent a liability waiver to sign prior to attendance. Due to the safety precautions of CP soap making, no student under the age of 17 will be admitted without the addition of an enrolled adult chaperon.
VIRTUAL learning option :
A recording of our live class to follow and understand all techniques, calculations, safety etc. (see description for live class).
- RECORDING of live class : this video will offer very clear visuals, and camera angles that allow you to see some of the more intricate/delicate moments & fully be aware of safety.
- PDF file with notes, tips, tricks and a few recipes to try at home after your live class - will be emailed with your recording link.
- Recording will be DELIVERED on November 9th
- LIVE ZOOM -Q & A : Tuesday NOVEMBER 15th at 7:30pm EST
I will spend an hour with you to answer all questions and discussions you may have about your virtual soap class. This is about a week after you receive your recording and or attend the live class- giving you ample time to view and make a note of where you need clarification, assistance or help. The live zoom will focus on questions from students that did not get to attend in person, with time at the end for in-person students to continue the discussion and ask any further follow up questions they may have. - OPTION to purchase a kit for soap making. List of additional tools you need for soap making will be provided.

For Virtual learning :PURCHASE NO LATER THAN NOVEMBER 4 to allow time for shipping.
For in person : a few kits will be available on the day of the class.
includes : 5 ounces of lye (sodium hydroxide), 1 ounce of pure lavender essential oil, lavender buds, a blend of olive and coconut oils, castor oil, mold care instructions, reusable food grade natural silicone mold. I am having this shipped by a third-party for ease. Should you be purchasing the virtual option- please be aware, this will ship directly to you from the third party and will take time to arrive. Plan ahead to follow along with the recording.
We will discuss all additional materials needed and the reasoning within the live/recorded class, but the additional materials you will need for soap making include :
- Water, for making soap
- A reliable food scale to weigh all ingredients, I suggest one that can weigh at least up to 1 lb at a time (for this class)
- A small mixing bowl or container (CANNOT BE aluminum or zinc)
- A spatula or two (silicone preferred but not aluminum or zinc)
- A larger mixing bowl or container (not aluminum or zinc)
- An immersion/stick blender dedicated to soap making only (must not contain aluminum or zinc).
- SAFETY GOGGLES, GLOVES, APRON & FACE MASK
= approximately an additional $50-100 dollars in materials
